Well travelled & sophisticated

The Parlour Palm is one of the most popular houseplants in the world. It started its reign in the Victorian times; the parlour was the best room in the house, where you'd receive your fanciest visitors. Having this palm in your parlour showed that you were travelled and sophisticated, hence the name Parlour palm.

Clean air

One of NASA's top air-cleaning plants, the Parlour palm filters airborne toxins like benzene, formaldehyde and carbon monoxide. They are also considered non-toxic for pets and children.

Slow grower

A slow-growing, easy to care for plant, the Parlour palm can reach 1-2m tall. It can tolerate lower light and infrequent watering, but as with any plant, the correct care will help it grow much quicker.

Plant Bio

Native to the rainforests of Southern Mexico and Guatemala, this small palm grows below the canopy and therefore is tolerant of lower light situations than others.

The genus name 'Chamaedorea' comes from Ancient Greek: 'chamai' meaning 'on the ground' and 'dorea' to mean 'gift' - likely both of these are in reference to the plant's height and easily reachable fruits that it bears after flowering.

Part of the palm family Araeceae, which includes around 2,600 known species of climbers, shrubs, and tree-like plants, all of which are known under the common name of palms.

Other common names for this plant include:
Neanthe Bella Palm, Good luck palm, Chamaedora

Care tips

Light
| It can tolerate lower light, but for best growth, provide lots of bright light. Avoid direct sun as it could scorch the leaves.

Water | The Parlour Palm is tolerant of a range of conditions, and watering levels should be adjusted in proportion to the light levels received. For best growth in bright light, water when the top layer of soil has dried out and ensure the plant can drain thoroughly.

Temperature | Similar to most houseplants, the Parlour Palm will go into dormancy below 12°C. For best growth, keep in temperatures between 15-28°C.
